Tutorial for Making money on Google Adsense & Yahoo Publisher Network () ()
Monday February 13th 2006, 10:31 am in Work

Yay! I’m up to making $9/day average with my Google Adsense / Yahoo Publisher mix. It isn’t a huge amount but it’s given me the initiative and motivation to ramp up some of my web work. Who wouldn’t want a bit of extra cash for a web site that pretty much just runs itself or one that you update anyway?

I’ve gotten a couple emails from people wondering why/how I have ads on some of my sites like this one. I also have them on a couple others such as rallyclassified.com or seafoodblog.org and how exactly I get the ads installed.

It is really simple actually. You only need one things to get started - a web site. Preferably something that has traffic because it’s all about the ratios. More traffic = more clicks = more money. And goo search engine ranking or referrals help a bunch too.

Then, you paste in your Adsense and/or Yahoo Publisher code wherever you want it to appear. I’ve included mine as an example here for both Yahoo and Google.

First, here’s Google:

<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-5051799565436281";
google_ad_width = 120;
google_ad_height = 600;
google_ad_format = "120x600_as";
google_ad_type = "text";
google_ad_channel ="8108558064";
google_color_border = "CCCCCC";
google_color_bg = "FFFFFF";
google_color_link = "000000";
google_color_url = "666666";
google_color_text = "333333";
//--></script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>

And here’s Yahoo’s Code:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
ctxt_ad_partner = "1835604550";
ctxt_ad_section = "24114";
ctxt_ad_bg = "";
ctxt_ad_width = 160;
ctxt_ad_height = 600;
ctxt_ad_bc = "FFFFFF";
ctxt_ad_cc = "FFFFFF";
ctxt_ad_lc = "0000FF";
ctxt_ad_tc = "000000";
ctxt_ad_uc = "999999";
// -->
</script>
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://ypn-js.overture.com/partner/js/ypn.js">
</script>

It’s been my experience that Yahoo pays more per click on average (some of mine are almost $2) but their targeting still needs a lot of work, and their quantity of advertisers is lower. Google ads seem to “fit” better with my sites, but hey - money talks too!

Go get-em Tiger!
